All
Chief Engines are dynamometer tested on our Superflow
901 which performs sweep tests, step tests and constant wide
open operation while recording 43 different, engine operating
characteristics such as torque, horsepower, friction horsepower,
volumetric efficiency, fuel consumption, air consumption, air/fuel
ratios, brake specifics, air, oil, water and fuel pressures and
temperatures, individual cylinder combustion and exhaust temperatures.
Because our dynamometer research and development is extensive,
we create proven, powerful, and efficient marine performance
engines.
"Initial Break-in" and
tuning take place at the Chief Engines factory and
afterwards, engines undergo leak down and compression
tests to insure proper initial break-in. The valve
lash adjustments are checked to warrant proper camshaft
break in, cylinder heads re-torqued, engine checked
for water, oil and fuel leaks and finally break-in
oil and filter are changed.
Engines are dynamometer
tested complete with all accessories,
brackets and exhaust systems to confirm that
all electrical, charging, ignition, cooling,
lubricating and alarm systems are functioning
together. Engines are delivered as a complete
tested unit ready to install. Because Chief Engines
performs extensive exhaust system testing with
manufacturers such as Stainless Marine and CMI,
we are able to shape systems for each type of
engine. Custom tuning can yield 5-20% power gains. Chief
Engines leases dyno time for upgrade testing,
new engine testing, or tune-up testing.
The following information
is an example of a dynamometer test included with each engine
purchase and lease time.
